Samsung Q8FN vs Q7FN vs Q7CN (QN75Q8FNBFXZA vs QN75Q7FNAFXZA; QN65Q8FNBFXZA vs QN65Q7FNAFXZA; QN55Q8FNBFXZA vs QN55Q7FNAFXZA)

The Q8FN differs from the Q7FN and Q7CN in the backlight structure, contrast ratio, the table top stand and wall-mounting options (the No Gap Wall Mount compatibility in particular), and whether the One Connect Box is included or not. The Q7FN and Q7CN differ in terms of the shape of the screen and stand (the Q7FN has a flat screen whereas the Q7CN has a slightly curved screen and a stand that matches the screen curvature). The depth enhancing technology is also different on the Q7FN vs Q7CN in order to reflect the screen shape. The Q7CN has a geometric contrast enhancer whereas the Q7FN utilizes a standard Contrast Enhancer.

Backlight Type Full Array Edge-lit
The Q8FN has a full array backlight meaning the LEDs are spaced evenly across the back of the panel. The Q7FN and Q7CN are edge-lit so all the LEDs are placed alongside the bottom of the panel (and a light guidance plate is used so that all areas of the panel can be illuminated). Not having the light source directly behind the screen, though, leads to the Q7FN and Q7CN being slightly more prone to exhibiting backlight uniformity issues in comparison to the Q8FN. It should be said that imperfections in the backlight uniformity are visible only during some specific situations, such as when the entire screen (or most of it) is showing uniform color, which rarely occurs with typical content, or when the camera is panning across a light background. Therefore, the Q8FN advantage over the Q7FN and Q7CN in terms of backlight uniformity is mostly limited to these instances.

Contrast Q Contrast Elite Q Contrast Plus
The Q8FN's full array backlight permits more local dimming zones than the Q7FN and Q7CN. Being edge lit from the bottom side of the panel limits the total number of local dimming zones on the Q7FN and Q7CN, as well as their ability to dim black bars in wide screen movies. The Q8FN, on the other hand, is not only able to achieve deep black level in letterbox bars but also when there are bright elements in the scene. In other words, the contrast ratio is higher on the Q8FN in comparison to the Q7FN and Q7CN which explains why the former has the Q Contrast Elite whereas the latter two have the Q Contrast Plus.

Table Top Stand Two A-shaped Legs Q7FN: T-center Q7CN: C-center
When it comes to mounting the TV on a table top surface, the Q8FN requires a larger area in comparison to the Q7FN and Q7CN due to its stand consisting of two separate legs that have to be attached near the two opposite sides of the TV. The Q7FN and Q7CN, on the other hand, include a stand that has a central rear support column and a front portion that is either T- or C-shaped depending on whether the TV has a flat screen (i.e. Q7FN) or curved screen (i.e. Q7CN) so that it can better match the TV's form. It should be said, however, that the curvature of the Q7CN's screen is rather subtle, and so is the C-shaped stand. There is a slight variation between the color scheme used for the stand and the TV's frame on the Q8FN (Carbon Silver) vs the Q7FN and Q7CN (Eclipse Silver).

One Connect Box No Yes
The One Connect Box is included with the Q7FN and Q7CN but not with the Q8FN (nor is this model compatible with it). This means that all inputs, electronics and the power supply are located not at the back of the Q7FN and Q7CN (where the Q8FN has them) but instead in a separate box. The Q7FN and Q7CN also include the One Invisible Connection which is a 16.4 ft long fiber optical cable that carries both power and video signal from the One Connect Box to the TV. The Q8FN has 4 HDMI inputs, 2 USB ports, an Ethernet port, a Digital Optical Audio Out, a RF input, and a RS232C (Ex-Link) on the back whereas the only port on the back of the Q7FN and Q7CN is the one used for connecting the One Connect Box to. The Q7FN and Q7CN have the same set of connection on the One Connect Box as the Q8FN has on the back except for the one extra USB port, meaning that the Q7FN and Q7CN have a total of 3 USB ports on the One Connect Box.

No Gap Wall Mount No Yes (sold separately)
The Q7FN and Q7CN are compatible with the Samsung's No Gap Wall Mount (sold separately) whereas the Q8FN is not. The reason is that the Q8FN has its inputs and electronics at the back, in addition to a full array backlight as opposed to being edge-lit, so its slightly thicker than the Q7FN and Q7CN. Apart from that, all three series are compatible with the VESA 400x400 standard in the 65-inch class, and the VESA 200x200 standard in the 55-inch class. The 75-inch class TVs from the Q8FN and Q7FN series are compatible with the VESA 400x400 standard.
